OBITUARY OF J. E. GUNDER.

Has Been a Resident of County for But Short Time.

Joseph Edward Gunder was born at Milledgeville, Ill., Aug 3, 1868. When a child he came with his parents to Iowa in which state his home has since been. His marriage took place November 26, 1890, when Martha S. Schirmer became his wife. Their home was gladdened by the coming of three sons and one daughter, all of whom remain with their mother and are present today--Howard Homer, of South Bend, Ind., now in the national service, Herman Charles of Ames; and Philip Allen and Helen Margaret whose home is here. Besides the wife and children, Mr. Gunder's mother is yet living and the following brothers and sisters--George W. Gunder of Algona, Mrs. Jennie Zimmerman of Des Moines, Dallas A. and Casper Gunder of New Salem, N. D., Crimby A. Gunder of Nevada, Frank Gunder of Des Moines, Mrs. Rena Cooper of Norwalk, and Mrs. Lula Dormady of New Salem, N. D.

While Mr. Gunder was living in Ottumwa the Sunday meetings were held there and during those meetings he united with the Methodist Episcopal church. He was also a member of the U. C. S. and M. W. A.

His health had not been good for some time yet he was not confined to his bed. A week ago last Friday night he dame home in the car sick. An operation was seen to be necessary if life was possibly to be saved and this was performed on Sunday but the system was too largely undermined and though the patient made a hard struggle for health, death finally came Monday afternoon,, Sept. 30, at about three o'clock in the fifty-first year of his life.

The funeral services which were attended by a large number of neighbors and friends, were held at the residence north-west of Nevada Thursday morning at ten o'clock, conducted by Rev. R. M. Shipman. The burial was at the Nevada cemetery.
