George Robison, County Pioneer, Died Here Today

George G. Robison, 85, died at his home at 836 Lincoln avenue at 1:20 a. m. today, from pneumonia, following an illness of several days from diabetic trouble from which he had been a sufferer.

Mr. Robison, eldest son of Mrs. and Mrs. R. A. "Alex" Robison, born in Mifflinton, Pennsylvania, September 1, 1853, came to Story county with his parents when a child of but two years and here he had spent his entire life, with the exception of about 14 years spent at Charles City, where he with his wife had moved to be near their children.

Raised on the old Robison farm in Indian Creek township he grew to manhood an on March 13, 1879 he was united in marriage to Sarah Alice Gregory, with whom he lived for fifty-six years, or until her death at the family home here April 9, 1935.

Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Robison, one of them, the only son passing away in infancy and the younger daughter, Georgiana, who became the wife of Tom Hemstock, died about a year ago.

Surviving are the two daughters, Mrs. Claudia Bronson who came her from her home at Council Bluffs September 14 and had been with the father since and Mrs. Cornea Cerwinski of Charles City, also present at this bedside since Saturday. He also leaves six grandchildren.

Mr. Robison settled on a farm in Section 13, Union township, eight miles south of Nevada and there the family home continued and their children were raised. Retiring from the farm where Mr. Robison had enjoyed exceptional success, in 1915 they went to Charles City, where they continued their home until 1929, when they returned to Nevada and established their home at 836 Lincoln avenue, where they celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the marriage and where Mrs. Robion passed away in 1935.

Besides the two daughters and several grandchildren, Mr. Robison, who was the eldest of the eight children of Mr. and Mrs. "Alex" Robison leaves two sisters and two brothers. They are Mrs. Emma Maxwell-Hendricks of California, Mrs. Fannie Proctor of Nevada; Edward Robison of Los Angeles and R. A. "Bert"Robison of Nevada. Those dead are Ida who as Mrs. A. G. Moore died in 1909, E. R. "Buzz" and Charles who were extensive farmers and died a few years ago on their farms south of Nevada.

Since the passing of the wife he had continued in his home on Lincoln avenue, part of the time with one or more of his daughters with him and at times with a housekeeper to look after his home.

His health had generally been very good for one of his advanced years, and it was but within the past few months that he began to show that the ravages of time were showing upon his health and vigor and halting his activities.

His mind continued bright at all times, however, and he had been down town and looking after his business and mingling with his friends occasionally until a very short time ago.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 9, with a prayer at the home at 2:00 and the funeral from the Methodist Episcopal church of which he was a member at 2:30. Burial will be in the family lot in the Iowa Center Cemetery, by the side of his wife and other members of the family.
