Funeral Services for L. M. Wagley

Huxley, Feb. 21--Funeral rites for L. M. Wagley were held at the Palestine church Thursday afternoon at 1:30, following a short prayer service at the home. The services were in charge of his pastor, Rev. H. E. Jacobson and he was assisted by Rev. Peter Buland of Story City, a former pastor and neighbor for many years.

A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Emil Westvold, Mrs. H. E. Jacobon, Burt Tesdall and Walter Christopher sang "Rock of Ages" and Mrs. Jacobson and Walter Christopher sang a duet, a Norwegian song "Hvile Engang." There was also a Norwegian solo by Walter Christopher, "Den Store Hvide Flok Vi Se."

The remains were interred in the Palestine cemetery.

Ludwig Martin Wagley was born at Waglied, in Shold, Norway, Aug. 28, 1868 and died Feb. 13, 1940, at his home near Huxley, at the age of 72 years, 5 months and 15 days.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church of Norway. At the age of 17 years he came to America, and settled at Cambridge.

On Dec. 24, 1893, he was married to Anna Sheldahl of Sheldahl, Ia. For four years they lived at Thompson, Ia., and five years at Lake Wilson, Minn. Thirty-five years ago they returned to this community, where they have made their home ever since.

Mr. Wagley leaves to cherish his memory his wife and twelve children, names Mrs. Lilly Sheldahl of Huxley, Mrs. Pearl Dobbe of Inwood, Henry Leonard and Sheldon of Chicago, John and Stanley of Sebastopol, Calif. Mrs. Rose Croft of Yale, Ia., Mrs. Josephine Klonglan of Chicago, Mrs. Charlotte Hass of Hawarden, Mrs. Fern Aldrich and Mrs. Thelma Murray at home. He is also mourned by 16 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Sarah Thorson of Radcliffe and one brother, George Wagley of Hadley, Minn.

Mr. Wagley had not been in good health for many years. During the past years it became apparent that he was afflicted with cancer in the throat. He had been bedfast since Christmas time and passed quietly away at his home Monday morning.

Relatives from a distance who were here for the funeral were Stanley and John Wagley of Sebastopol, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Wagley and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wagley and family, Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Wagley, Mrs. and Mrs. Everett Klongland and children all of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Dobbe of Inwood, Harold Hass of Hawarden, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Wagley of Hadley, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Benson, Mrs. Sarah Thorson, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Alsager of Radcliffe, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Law, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Law of Elkhart, Mrs. Accie Wagley, Mr. and Mrs. John Thorson, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Thorson of Cambridge, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Olson and Kenneth, Mrs. Fields, Anton Severson and Mrs. E. Bennett of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Tillean Thorson of Ankeny.
