OBITUARIES
Donald D. Jay
Nov. 15, 1910, to March 15, 1999Donald D. Jay, 88, died Monday, March 15, at the Story County Hospital in Nevada from complications of a stroke.
He was born Nov. 15, 1910, near Yetter to Allen and Viola Dillon Jay. He married Thelma Grierson on June 30, 1961, in Nevada. He had farmed near Clemons and a drainage/farm tiling contractor in Story and surrounding counties until retiring in 1979. He also served as guest pastor around the state, held chapel service at area nursing homes and helped establish new churches including Bethel Baptist Church in Iowa Falls.
He enjoyed Christian fellowship, gardening, family, sports and buttered Iowa corn on the cob. He was a member of the Nevada Baptist Church were he had served as a deacon for many years.
Survivors include his wife Thelma of Nevada; two sons, Duane of Colo and Jerry of Henry, Ill.; a daughter, Gayle Etheridge of Des Moines; two step sons, Norman and Joel McDaniel both of Nevada and Anne Knapp of Independence, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a brother, Lewis Jay of Park Rapids, Minn.; and a sister, Hilda Swartzwelter of Boulder, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 20, at the Nevada Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Reynolds officiating. Burial was in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Bacon Funeral Home, Nevada, handles arrangements.
