Funeral Services Held for Mrs. Ryg
Slater, March 20--Funeral services for Mrs. Ed Ryg were held Sunday afternoon 1:30 o'clock at the home and 2 o'clock at the Bethlehem church. The services were in charge of her pastor Rev. E. r. Rorem, who spoke in the English and Norwegian languages. The beautiful floral offerings were in charge of Mrs. Obed Johnson and Miss Gladys Ryen. The duet "Den Store Hvide Flok" was sung by Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs. A. L. Peterson. Miss Ruth Halverson sang "The Old Rugged Cross." By special request the song, "Fly Som En Fugl" was sung by a nephew Jeffrey Richardson. The pall bearers were: John Ihle, N. O. Ihle, Nels Ihle, Casper Rimathe, John Gunderson and A. L. Peterson.
Susan Ryen was born in Olen, Norway, Jan. 7, 1869, and died March 16, 1934 at the age of 65 years, 2 months and 9 days. Her parents were Nels and Carie Ryen. She came to America with her parents when she was 18 months old and they made their home at Lisbon, Ill. She was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. They moved to Iowa early in 1892. Her marriage to Ed Ryg of Lisbon, Ill. took place Oct. 22, 1892. They made their home in Lisbon till 1901 when they moved to Iowa and made their home on a farm north of Slater. Seven children were born to this union. She was a devout and unassuming mother and made a place in the home that cannot be filled. She was a member of the Lutheran church. The Ladies Aid presented a gift of money to the mission in her memory.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, five daughters Miss Josie Ryg at home, Mrs. James Storing of Elwood, Mrs. Arthur Yttrevold, Mrs. Porter Chelsvig of Kelley and Mrs. John Berhow of Des Moines; two sons, Elmer Ryg at home, Clarence Ryg of Slater and nine grandchildren. Three sisters Mrs. Carrie Thompson of Roland, Mrs. Lena Michelson and Mrs. George Christianson of Slater, two brothers Tom Ryen of Roland and Erick Ryen of Slater, beside a host of relatives and friends. Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.
