Last Rites For Daniel B. Welty Held on Monday

Funeral services fro the late Daniel B. Welty, 85, longtime resident of Story county, were held at the Morfoot Funeral Home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. C. E. Lookingbill officiating.

Mrs. Roger Hopkins and daughter Miss Martha of Colo accompanied by Mrs. Frances O'Donnell of Colo, sang "In the Garden" and "Rock of Ages." Many beautiful flowers surrounded the bier.

The pall bearers were DeWayne Myers, Herbert Andrew, E. C. Gretten, E. A. Vincent, Leon Hall and E. B. Ayers.

Burial was in the St. James cemetery in Colo by the side of his wife who passed away 25 years ago.

The following life sketch was read by the officiating minister who paid a fine tribute to the long life of the deceased.

Daniel B. Welty, son of Christian C. and Susan Welty, was born in Hagerstown, Maryland, on October 24, 1862 and passed away in a hospital i Detroit, Mich., at 8:15 a. m. Thursday, March 25, at the age of 85 years.

In 1871 the family settled in Daysville, Illinois, and in about 1881 they came to Story county to live.

Daniel B. was married in Oregon, Illinois on Dec. 27, 1889 to Mary Ann Holland and to this union were born two children, Clarence C. and Anna G.

They lived in Illinois until 1909 when they came to Story county where they resided all but four years which were spent in Mt. Vernon, Iowa.

Mrs. Welty passed away in Colo, Iowa, on April 21, 1923.

On Jan. 12, 1932, he was married to Harriet Frye of Oregon, Ill., who passed away July 6, 1938.

After the death of his wife, Mr. Welty lived along in Nevada until November, 1946, when he left to make his home with his son and wife in Detroit, Michigan, Meville Welty of Pocahontas county, Mrs. Russell Pierce of Detroit, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Peter Egenes and Mr. and Mrs. Thor Hegland of McCallsburg, Orrie Anderson of Ames, Mrs. D. A. Cannon of Colo and possibly a number of others.

Surviving are the son, Clarence C. of Detroit, Mich., and the daughter, Mrs. Alfred D. Navarro of Los Angeles, Calif., also two brothers, Ira C. Welty of Nevada and Harvey A. Welty of Spirit Lake, and one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Alderman of Erie, Pennsylvania, numerous nephews and nieces besides a hot of friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, May, and brothers Guy Welty and Bert B. Welty.
