DEATHS

Syvert Westvold

Funeral services for Syvert Westvold were held Monday, June 24 at the the Palestine Lutheran Church with Pastor Ernest Thompson officiating. The congregation sang two hymns, "Just as I am" and "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus Name."

Pallbearers were his grandsons, Clark Westvold, Steven Westvold, Warren Westvold, Robert Westvold, Mark Sebek, James Breining.

Burial was in Palestine Cemetery.

Syvert Westvold was born May 17 1884 in Vats, Norway. He came to America in 1901 and emigrated to Iowa. He married Helga Johanna Ostrem on February 5, 1913. He was a member of Palestine Lutheran Church.

He died on Friday, June 21 at Bethany Manor in Story City at the age of 90. He had been a resident of the home the past month.

He is survived by three sons, Selmer of Huxley, Joseph of Klamath Fallas, Oregon, Marvin of Des Moines, four daughters, Anna Atha of San Jose, Calif., Mildred Ross, San Jose, Calif., Helen Sebek of Fort Dodge, Agnes Eeg of Auburn, Washington. One brother Rasmus of Huxley also survives. He left 27 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1957 and two sons Emil and Bernard and three grandchildren.
