Funeral Rites for Mrs. Ella Allen Held Monday

Maxwell, May 11--Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Allen, widow of the late Frank Allen, were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Presbyterian church with her pastor, Rev. David de Best, officiating. A quartette composed of Clark John, Mrs. Harold Mohler, Mrs. H. C. Larsen and Dorus Myers sang one hymn, "Under His Wings," with Mrs. Lorena Martin accompanist on the piano.

The altar and casket were banked with many beautiful floral offerings as tokens of the esteem in which she held in this community.

Pallbearers were Rollie Peterson, Van Gamble, A. F. Heinrich, Gerton Nelson, J. M. Atterberry and A. M. Christy.

On account of the inclemency of the weather, members of Annie Laurie chapter No. 293 O. E. S. held their grave-side service at the church instead of at the cemetery. Burial was made in the family lot at the Center Grove cemetery.

The deceased was a member of the Presbyterian church, Order of Eastern Stars, American Legion Auxiliary (Charter Member) and Literary and Social club, an active member as long as her health permitted.

Following is a short life sketch as read by Rev. de Best.

Ellen Mary Eikert was born at Centerville, Shelboygan county, Illinois, Feb. 11, 1868, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Isabel, Mrs. Fred Shearer, at Nevada May 4th, 1945 at the age of 77 years.

She moved with her parents to Des Moines when she was fourteen years of age. She was united in marriage to Frank Hamlin Allen, May 4, 1887 and moved to Story county in 1893 where she resided the rest of her life.

To this union nine children were born, seven of whom still survive, Florence at home, Foss at Maxwell, Forest at Salinas, Calif., Floyd at Los Angeles, Isabel at Nevada, Ransom at Bakersfield, Calif., and Lola at Marquette, Michigan. Her husband preceded her in death August 20, 1932. She also leaves to mourn her loss twenty-three grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
