Held Final Rites at Maxwell for Late "Med" White

Maxwell, June 8--Final rites for F. M. "Med" White were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Church of Christ, with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill of Nevada officiating.

The scripture lesson was read by the pastor, Rev. Stanley Mahannah. A quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Orlando Holtby, Mrs. C. I. Kirk and Arnold Scott sang "Rock of Ages" and "Have Thine Own Way, Lord." Floral tokens were many and beautiful. Casket bearers were Cloyd Maxwell, C. B. French, Rufus Bullard, Glen Scott, Ray Robertson and George Cole. Burial was made in the family lot in the Maxwell cemetery.

The following life sketch was read during the services:

Francis Marion White, son of Asa and Abigail White, was born March 26, 1869 in Minnesota. Within a year the family moved by covered wagon to Kansas where they made their home for about twelve years. From Kansas they moved again by covered wagon means of transportation to Stoey County as pioneers.

At the age of 23 he married Miss Gennettie Reagan at Maxwell, February 18, 1892. Three years later they took up residence in the Red River valley of Minnesota where they lived for 5 years after which time they returned to Maxwell to make their permanent home.

For 18 years he worked in Maxwell as a skilled harness maker, followed by 25 years as a farmer in the vicinity of Maxwell. One year after the death of the wife on August 10, 1935 he went to Williamsburg where he became a harness maker in the William harness shop at Williamsburg.

Mr. White, who had not been well the past year, had driven to the Minta Williams residence at the noon hour Saturday, June 3, and had just risen from his chair at the table when he fell in death. His age was 75 years, 2 months and 8 days.

He is survived by the following children: Glen, of Nevada, Lemuel of Maxwell, Ada of Belmond, Max of Ames, Gale of Des Moines and John of Colo. The daughters are Mrs. Martha Green of Maxwell, Mrs. Anna Kirby of Ames, Mrs. Paulie Griffith of Des Moines, Mrs. Lola Wilkison of Maxwell. One daughter, Mrs. Lorena Griffith, preceded him in death.

He was the grandfather of 23 children of which number 20 are living, and the great grandfather of 17 He is further survived by one brother, Lemuel R. White of Eau Claire, Wis., and two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Hardenbrook of St. Paul, Min., and Mrs. Barbara Mather of Lake View, Iowa. His stepmother, Mrs. Katie White, also survives him.

Two sons are in the armed services. Sgt. John White of the Marines, in the South Pacific, is a survivor of the late battle at Tarawa; Gale White, Seaman 2-c, is in New Guinea. Two other sons, Asa and Max, leave soon to join their brothers in the service. His sons, Glen and Lemuel, were in World War I. He also has two grandsons, Pfc. John M. Griffith and Sgt. L. R. Griffith serving overseas.

Services were held Monday afternoon in the Jones Funeral Home at Williamsburg, conducted by the Rev. O. B. Preston of the Congregational church. At the conclusion of the service the body was taken to Ames to daughter's home.
