Funeral Services for Mrs. Askelson

Special to the Journal.
Gilbert, Nov. 1--Funeral services for Mrs. Belle Jenkins Askelson were held from the Adams chapel at Ames Tuesday, Oct. 30-'34 at 1:15 and from the Bilbert Congregational church at 2 p. m.

Services were conducted by the Pastor, Rev. J. P Himmel, who used for his text St. John's Gospel, 14 chapter, 19th verse. He was assisted by Rev. Wood of Zenorsville, who gave a prayer.

The flowers were many and beautiful. The pallbearer were life-long friends of the deceased. A male quartet sang several selections very beautifully. The church was filled to capacity by relatives and friends who came to pay their last respects to one whom they had known and loved.

Belle Jenkins Askelson was born in Boone county, Ia., Aug. 4, 1880 and passed away Oct. 27, 1934 at the age of 54 years, 2 months and 23 days. Her death occurred at Iowa City Saturday where she had been taking treatments for two weeks. With the exception of a few years her entire life has been spent in this community, where she was known and loved by all. When a young woman, making her home in Gilbert, she united with the Congregational church to which she has remained a faithful member.

On Oct. 3, 1912, she was united in marriage to Nels Askelson, who survives her. She also leaves to mourn her passing, a son, Howard, one sister, Mrs. Erma McGrath, two brothers, Emlyn and James Jenkins of Boone county. She will be greatly missed in her home and neighborhood for she had that sunny happy disposition that made her a favorite with all her acquaintances. She was always a special friend of young people, for whom she had great love and understanding.

Among the relatives at the funeral from a distance were Harvey Woods, Mr. and Mrs. True Woods, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Morgan of Murry; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Morgan, Mr. and Mrs. H. Bradshaw and Marvin Armstrong of Peru, Ia.; Elmer and Frank Morgan and Mrs. Elizabeth Morgan of Stanley, Ia., and a large number from Boone and Ames.
