Funeral Services Held Tuesday for Nels S. Askelson

Gilbert, Dec. 30--Funeral services for Nels Askelson were held Tuesday afternoon from the Duckworth Funeral home and the Lutheran Church in Gilbert with Rev. Heimarck in charge. He was laid to rest in the Gilbert cemetery.

The following life sketch was read:

Nels S. Askelson, son of Sampson and Sella Askelson was born December 17, 1871, on a farm northeast of Gilbert and died in the Mary Greeley Hospital December 23, 1944. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and spent all of his early years on the farm until he started work as a carpenter, which occupation he followed until seven years ago when he was injured by a fall from which he never completely recovered.

He married in 1912 to Belle Jenkins who passed away on Oct. 27, 1934. Surviving this union is an adopted son, Capt. Howard Askelson of the U. S. Air Corps, Oscoda, Michigan.

He was married to Dena Knudson in 1938 who survives him.

Mr. Askelson had been in failing health for the last eight months. He suffered a stoke on Dec. 8th and his condition grew worse until he was removed to the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where he passed away at 10:45 a. m. Dec. 23. Besides his widow and son he is survived by one sister, Mrs. T. L. Olson, and three brothers, Sam of Gilbert and Albert and Oscar of Story City.
