Funeral Services for R. B. McKinney Were Held in Colo Sunday

Funeral services for Robert B. McKinney were held at the Colo Methodist Church on Saturday afternoon, November 25 at 2:30 following a prayer service at the home at 2 o'clock. The service was conducted by Rev. A. T. Schneck and Rev. Manning.

Music was furnished by Charles Lehman, John Lounsberry, Mrs. Charles Yeager, Mrs. Floyd Lounsberry, accompanied by Mrs. Dr. Brinkman.

The floral tributes which were many and beautiful were arranged by Mrs. Clyde Knudson, Mrs. John Donneley and Mrs. Claude Dickinson.

The pall bearers were Floyd Oswalt, Clarence Stark, Ross White, Clyde Knudson, Frank Rowden and Claude Dickinson. Burial was in the Colo cemetery in charge of Brouhard Funeral Home.

The following life sketch was read at the funeral service:

"Robert B. McKinney of Colo, Iowa, a notice of Houston, Missouri, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 23rd, 1944, at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 4 days.

"He had been in failing health for several months, becoming bedfast the past week. His death was due to ulcers of the stomach.

"Mr. McKinney was born on a farm near Houston, Missouri March 19, 1867. A son of David and Isabel McKinney, pioneer settlers of South Missouri. He ws married to Ida E. Smith December 25th, 1892 at Houston, Missouri. They would have been married fifty-two years this Christmas. Since moving to Iowa in 1922, they have made their home in Marshall and Story counties.

"He is survived by his wife and nine children, five sons and four daughters. The sons are Virgil of Colo; Vester of Wichita, Kansas; Victor of Nevada; Vernon and Roscoe at home. The daughters are Mrs. C. A. Nagle of Parsons, Kansas; Mrs. Frank Tucker of Clemons; Mrs. T. L. Handsaker of Colo and Gladys, who teaches in the Cedar Falls schools. All were present at the time of his passing.

"There are nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom were present except a grandson, Wayne McKinney, who is with the Air Troop Transport Service in England.

He also leaves three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. James Shepherd of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Mrs. Nancy Godfrey of Parsons, Kansas, Mrs. J. A. Wheeler of Mt. Grove, Missouri, Jake and Andy McKinney of Cabool, Missouri. It was impossible for the brothers and sisters to be present.

"Mr. McKinney was a man of high character, one who was always ready and willing to help those in need. His smile of greeting and handshake to his many friends always impressed them as the smile from the heart and a welcome in the home. Many memories will be recalled of his kind and friendly interests.

"During his illness his family with loving hand administered to his every need. He was very patient during his suffering and expressed his feeling of gratefulness many times to the family.

"Throughout Mr. McKinney's life he was always very active in civic affairs both in Missouri and Iowa. He had made many friends throughout Story county as a member of the Democratic Central Committee upon which he served until his health failed."

Friends and relatives from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hartman of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence McCubbins, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Olson, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Melton of Marshalltown, Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Parmenter, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Smith of Conrad, Mr. and Mrs. K. P. Teig, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Teig, Mr. and Mrs. Orris Osheim of Roland, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Campbell of Rhodes, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rowden, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Jones, Mr. F. C. Davis of Clemons, Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Teig of Ames and Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Montgomery of Nevada.
