Final Rites Held Here Wednesday for Late Chris Nelson

Funeral rites for Chris Nelson, long time respected resident of Nevada and vicinity were held Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Lutheran church, with his pastor, Dr. J. O. Simon in charge. Burial was in the family lot, Nevada cemetery beside his wife who had preceded him in death several years ago.

Mrs. Simon sang two beautiful solos, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Going Down the Valley."

The casket bearers were members of the I. O. O. F. lodge of which the deceased was a member. They being, Guy French, E. B. Ayers, Clyde Steward, Everett Fry, Marvin Smith and L. O. Borgen.

The church was well filled with old neighbors and friends gathered with members of the family to pay a final tribute to this pioneer.

The following brief life sketch of the deceased was read during the service:

"Christian Nelson, a native of Denmark, was born Aug. 22, 1865. He came to America as a young man and located in Nevada where he was married ot Caroline Christine Nelson on Sept. 5, 1885. He received his naturalization papers about two years later in 1887.

Their home had been not more than three miles from Nevada their entire married life and here their children were born and raised to manhood and womanhood.

They are survived by the children, Mrs. Mary Larson, Stena Hoel and Sena Melohn of Nevada, Hans Nelson of near McCallsburg; R. Fred Nelson and Mrs. Emma Warner of Nevada, and Carl Nelson of Pasadena, California. Besides these there are 22 grandchildren and a large number of great grandchildren. All of these being present for the services except Carl Nelson of Pasadena and one grand son serving with the U. S. army.

Mr. Nelson and his wife united with the Memorial Lutheran church in 1917. A living expression of his faith in God to provide for his material and spiritual needs was evidenced by his ever smiling countenance.

He passed from his earthly home into the home of eternity on Sunday, Feb. 14, 1943, about 9:45 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. O. C. Melohn and husband, 1134 10th street, after having reached the age of 77 years, 5 months and 23 days.

Relatives attending the funeral services from out of town were Rasmus Nelson of Albert Lea, Minnesota and Mr. and Mrs. Art Nelson of Ames.
