Final Rites Held for William Hadley Here Tuesday

Final rites for William J. Hadley, 59, Nevada township farmer who met a tragic death in an accident with a cornpicker on his farm south of Nevada Thursday of last week, were held Wednesday afternoon from the Morfoot Funeral home, followed by interment in the Nevada cemetery.

The chapel was well filled with relatives, friends and neighbors gathered to pay a final tribute of respect to one whom they had loved and respected.

The services was in charge of Rev. Reynolds C. Murdock of the Nevada First Methodist church and with two songs by Harold Kruwell with Mrs. J. C. Hathaway at the piano. The beautiful floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. H. L. Huddlestun, Mrs. Ansel Freeland and Mrs. C. E. Bivens.

The pallbearers were selected from among the men of the neighborhood in which deceased had had his home for the past ten years. They were L. R. Weeks, George Tichenor, George Backous, L. Banks, Irvin Williams and Veryl Williams.

Many relatives and friends from Webster county and other counties in which Mr. Hadley had lived, were present for the services.

The following brief life sketch of the deceased was prepared and read by the minister.

"William John Hadley was born on December 14, 1883 near the little town of Badger in Webster county, Iowa. He was the third son of Peter Hadley and Anne Myrah both natives of Wisconsin. He attended the country school near his birth place and later spent some time as a student at Humboldt College, Humboldt Iowa.

"On March 26, 1908, he was united in marriage to Susan Hanson of Humboldt, Iowa. To this union were born Milo Hadley, now a farmer in Milford township of this county, Ruth Hadley, now Mrs. John Alleman residing near Ames, Iowa, and Hope Haldley now Mrs. Edwin B. Hanson of Albany California.

"In addition to his wife and children he leaves surviving him, one sister, Mrs. M. A. Cromwell of Anaconda, Montana, two brothers, Dr. Lawrence M. Hadley of Ruthven, Iowa and Colonel Herbert E. Hadley of Nevada, Iowa. He also leaves three grandchildren Wilbert and Peter Hadley and Susan Hanson.

"Since his marriage Mr. Hadley had been continuously engaged in the occupation of farming. For a number of years he operated a farm near Eagle Grove, Iowa. About ten years ago he and his family moved to a farm some miles southeast of Nevada in Nevada township of this county and there he resided until his death on the 22nd of October, 1942.

"Mr. Hadley had long been a member of the Methodist church. On coming to Story county he transferred his membership to the Maxwell Methodist church and only recently to the Methodist church in Nevada."
