Funeral Services At Zearing For Ross Martin Bump

Zearing, April 3--Funeral services for Ross Martin Bump, 41, native son of this community who died in a Des Moines hospital, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Evangelical church here with Rev. R. E. Kearney in charge. Burial followed in the Zearing cemetery.

The songs were by a mixed quartet consisting of Myrtle Martin, Orpha Hankins, Glenn McBride and Gilbert Womeldorf, with Delores Whitaker at the piano.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Cerka, Ingvold Madison, Guy Clatterbuck, Eldon Chance, Merle Thornton and George Herr, while the flowers were card for by Mrs. Doris Rankin, Mrs. Lydia Herr and Mrs. Ruth Snowgren.

The following life sketch of the deceased was read by the minister during the service.

"Ross Martin Bump, third son of Fred M. and Maggie C. Bump, was born June 8, 1901, and passed away from this life at the Iowa Lutheran hospital, Des Moines, on March 28, 1942, at the age of 40 years, 9 months and 20 days.

"He lived his entire life in and near Zearing, with the exception of the last two and one-half years. For 14 years he was engaged in farming with his brothers, Otis and Clarence, but due to failing health and the advice of his physicians, retired from this activity in September, 1939, and sought to find relief by changing climate.

"During this period of time he established his home at Colorado Springs, Colo., Greeley, Colo., various places in Texas, Pasadena, Cal., Long Beach, Cal., and during the past winter at Hot Springs, Ark. The last six weeks of his life were spent at Springfield, Mo., from which place he was removed by ambulance last Wednesday to the hospital in Des Moines.

"On Nov. 14, 1931, he was married to Miss Avis Erickson, Roland, Ia., who has given him constant care and consolation during his long illness.

"Besides his wife he leaves his father, Fred M. Bump; one sister, Mrs. Irene Upchurch, Colo, and two brothers, Clarence of Zearing and Tom of Sumner.

"Preceding him in death were his mother, in August, 1928, and a brother, Otis, in October, 1938."

Relatives and friends from out of town present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Fred M. Bump of Dows; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bump and Richard of Sumner; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Upchurch and family of Colo, Luther Gilmore of Mankato, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gilmore, Mrs. Gladys Turner, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gilmore, all of St. Anthony, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Schuler, Fernald; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Twedt of McCallsburg, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Dunn of Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Erickson, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Erickson and Arlene, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Knudson and Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Peterson, Donald and Dale, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Erickson, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Jacobson all of Roland; Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Elliott, Mrs. James Elliott, Frank and Leo Elliott, all of Cambridge, Mrs. Pearl Thomas of Ames and Mrs. George Rice, Webster City.
