Final Rites Held Here Friday Afternoon For Mrs. John Lundy

Final rites for Mrs. John Lundy, 71, of 234 J avenue, Nevada, who died at Iowa sanitarium here early Wednesday, were held Friday afternoon at 3:30 at the Nevada Methodist church, with her pastor Rev. Reynolds C. Murdock in charge.

The church was well filled with relatives, old friends and neighbors gathered to pay a final tribute of respect to one whom they had long known and admired.

Two songs, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden" were sung by Mrs. Beulah Freeland, old neighbor and close friend of the deceased, with Mrs. Garnet Hathaway at the organ.

Members of the Order of the Easter Star and other groups to which Mrs. Lundy had belonged, were present at the service in a body and many accompanied the remains to the Nevada cemetery for interment.

The floral offerings which banked the bier in the front of the altar, were large and most beautiful, testifying in a colorful, yet mute manner, to the very high esteem in which Mrs. Lundy was held by the family and wide circle of friends.

Casket bearers were Glen R. Newton, Homer Boyes, Francis Tarman, C. L. Gifford, Chas. M. O'Neil and Gus Ludvig.

The following brief life sketch of the deceased was prepared by and read by the pastor during the service:

Lutie A. Lundy, daughter of A. J. and Nancy L. Tabor, was born at Baldwin, Iowa, on June 10, 1870 and passed away at the Iowa Sanitarium, Nevada, Iowa, on the morning of March 4, 1942, aged 71 years, 8 months and 25 days.

Her early girlhood was spent in the vicinity of Baldwin where she attended rural schools and also the Monmouth school. She later attended Normal College at Fulton, Illinois.

While attending school at Fulton she met John Lundy of Savannah, Illinois, to whom she was married on the 17th of February 1890, at Maquoketa, Iowa.

To this union was born one son and two daughters, Thomas G. of Zearing, Iowa, Leah A., who died on her second birthday, and Lola M., now Mrs. Myrl D. Johnson of Roland, Iowa.

Their home was first established in Illinois, later moving to Jackson county, Iowa, where they resided for a period of nine years. In January of 1901 they moved to Story county, Iowa and established their home near Nevada, later moving to a farm near Zearing. In September of 1917 they moved to their present home in Nevada, which has been their continuous residence since.

Mrs. Lundy was a longtime, faithful and conscientious ember of the Nevada Methodist Church She was a member of the Loyal Sisters Sunday School Class of this church and derived much happiness from her associations with this group. She was also a member of the local Order of Eastern Star, many of whom gathered in loving memory of a departed sister, and a member of the Royal Neighbors of America.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, John of Nevada, the one son, T. G. of Zearing, and one daughter, Lola M. Johnson of Roland, five grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces, also a host of friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Lundy was a woman of retiring disposition, her greatest delight being in her home and her family. She will be sadly missed by her family and a large circle of friends and neighbors.
