Funeral Services at Maxwell for Montgomery S. Rankin

Maxwell, Jan. 12--Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 7, for Montgomery S. Rankin, who died Monday in the University hospital at Iowa City. The service was in the Methodist church in the charge of pastor, Rev. John C. Turner, with Mrs. Arthur Hale at the piano.

The pastor read the following life sketch:

Montgomery S. Rankin, son of Francis and Elizabeth Rankin, was born in Danville, Ill., Jan. 19, 1870, and died Jan. 5, 1942, lacking only 14 days of being 72 years of age.

Mr. Rankin grew to manhood in Illinois and in 1897 went to western Kansas, there he met Miss Lichten Walter and they were married January 19, 1899. They made their home in Kansas for a number of years, then in Oklahoma, and came to Iowa in 1918. He moved to Maxwell in 1936.

Surviving are his wife, five children, six grandchildren and three brothers. The children are Mrs. Vera Vasey of Maxwell, Mrs. Verla Clyne of Miami, Fla., Harold of Reasnor, Ia., Mrs. Zelma Carson of Mt. Vernon, Ill., and Francis of Maxwell. The brothers are George of Newton, Ia., Leiford of Danville, Ill., and Warren of Springfield, Ill.

As a young man, Mr. Rankin affiliated with the Methodist church. He provided well for his family and made for his children a happy home. Regardless of how rough are hard the going he did not lose courage but made his plans and kept going. He had not been very well since a sickness eight years ago. He will be missed not only by his family but by his many friends in the community.
