Funeral Rites Held At Slater Wednesday For Floyd Clark

Slater, Oct. 24 -- Funeral services for Floyd Clark, 29, of near Boone were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the Riis Funeral Home and 2 o'clock at the Methodist church in Slater. It was one of largest funerals held in that church for several years, many were unable to get inside.

A brief prayer service was held at the funeral home and Mrs. M. S. Heggen sang "The Old Rugged Cross."

The services were in charge of the Rev. David Munson, pastor of the church, assisted by Rev. C. A. Nordine, pastor of the Evangelical Free church at Madrid. The unusually beautiful and numerous flora offerings paid silent tribute to the departed friend.

The flowers were arranged by Mrs. Hollis Hedlund, Mrs. Kenneth Kloglan and Mr. and Mrs. Oley Houge.

The pallbearers were Ray Richards of Boone, Verne Carlson, Robert Torgerson, Hollis Hedlund, Kenneth Klonglan and Milford Ryen. Louis Malmin sang "Sunrise" and Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs. A. L. Peterson sang two duets "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "The Lord Is My Shepherd." Interment was made in the city cemetery.

Floyd Clark was born on a farm near Slater, Jan. 19, 1912, and died Sunday, Oct. 19, 1941, at the age of 19 years and 10 months. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Bert Clark. He attended the Slater and Alleman public schools.

His marriage to Miss Thelma Benshoff of Madrid took place on July 8, 1933. He has been serving as WPA timekeeper at Boone for the past year. His tragic death Sunday, caused by the accidental discharge of his gun while hunting, cast a bloom of sorrow over the entire community.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mary Lou 7, and Dolores Ann 5, his parents,, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Clark, one brother, Emmett Clark of Des Moines and three sisters, Mrs. Kenneth Jennings of Cambridge, Mrs. Henry Trotter and Mrs. Duane Smithhart of Des Moines, and a host of relatives and friends. The sorrowing relatives have the sympathy of the entire community.
