Funeral Services Held Here for Mrs. George Phifer

Funeral services were held in the Evangelical church here Friday afternoon for Mrs. George Phifer, 81, who died at Fairmont, Minn., two days previous. The service was in charge of Rev. Theo. Yackel, pastor of that church and burial was in the Nevada cemetery.

The following life sketch of the deceased was read during the service:

"Mrs. George Phifer, whose maiden names was Anna Belle Stineman, was born April 12, 1858 at Grand View, Iowa.

"On Oct. 30, 1873 she was united in marriage to George Phifer, at Muscatine, Iowa. This happy union of 66 years, was blessed with four children, three sons and one daughter.

"She spent the greater part of her life in the state of Iowa. For many years she with her husband was a resident of Nevada, from which place she moved to Fairmont, Minn., where she spent her last years, together with her husband.

"Early in life she united with the church and was an active member while her physical strength lasted. She was a faithful member to the end. Though physically unable to be as active as she would have loved to be, her heart was still in the work. She was a member of the Nevada Evangelical church at the time of her death.

"Not only did she prove to be a Christian in the work of the church but also in her home and in her relationships with all people, ever showing a spirit of love and kindly helpfulness to all. She lived her Christianity, both in the home and in the community. She was a great lover of flowers which only shows more clearly her desire to scatter cheer and gladness along life's way.

"She was a loving, faithful and considerate wife, mother and friend devoted to her loved one unto the end.

"She was preceded in death by one son, Ernest Moody Phifer, who passed away Sept. 13, 1921.

"There remains to mourn her passing, her husband George Phifer; two sons, Elmer Floyd Phifer at Dows, Iowa, and Earl Edward Phifer at Fairmont, Minn, at whose home she spent the last years of her life; one daughter Mrs. Clarence Cassem who lives at Odon, Minn., two grandsons, Cecil Eugene Phifer and Ernest Phifer. There also remain two sisters and one brother all of whom live at Muscatine, Iowa. These, together with a host of friends mourn her passing.

Mrs. Phifer died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 1939 at Fairmont, Minn., at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 10 days."
