Last Rites Here For Edith S. Gates

Funeral services for Edith Snelling Gates were held from the Ryan Funeral Home Monday afternoon at 2 p. m. with the Rev. David Ash of the Nevada Methodist church officiating.

Two songs, "Beautiful Garden of Prayer" and "Sweet Hour of Prayer" were sung by Mrs. Henry Sutherland, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Norman Dobson.

The casket bearers were Donald Eller, Jon Eller, Robert Eller, Dalton Poppe, Dennis Poppe and Kennth Poppe.

Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.

Obituary

Edith Snelling Gates was born in Story county, Sept. 22, 1882, a daughter of Fleming B. and Isabelle Mead Snelling. She had been a resident of Story county her entire life.

Her death occurred Thursday Oct. 10 at the Gilmore Nursing Home in Nevada where she had been a patient the past three and a half years.

Her husband, Fred Gates preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gerald Eller of Nevada and Mrs. William Poppe of Ledyard, Iowa. She also leaves nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Edith Snelling was married three times: (1) to John F. Pryor on 7 January 1903 in Nevada, Story County, Iowa, (2) to Byron Howard Abbott on 3 July 1905, and (3) to Fred Emmet Gates on 2 January 1917 in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. Her two daughters mentioned, Hazel Eller and Gladys Poppe, were her daughters by John Pryor.
