BROTHER OF NEVADA MAN SUICIDED

CHARLES BLINK OF RHODES SUICIDED DURING FIT OF DESPONDENCY

Charles E. Blink, 53, who shot and killed himself Sunday morning at his farm three miles southeast of Rhodes, according to word received by his brother George Blink of 724 Tenth street, this city, did so during a fit of despondency over ill health. He committed the rash act while the family were away attending church.

Blink evidently committed suicide by placing the muzzel of the 12-gauge double barreled shotgun against his heart and pulling the trigger, according to Dr. H. H. Nichols, county coroner. The man had been in a great deal of pain for the last few years because of a chronic ailment according to the coroner.

Blink had done his regular morning work, but did not accompany his wife and their son, William, to church as he usually did. Upon returning from church, Mrs. Blink found her husband dead on the garage floor.

There will be no inquest because the investigation disclosed no evidence of foul play.

Charles Edward Blink was born Aug. 3, 1876, near Rhodes, and had been a resident of the Rhodes community all his life. On June 9, 1907, he married Miss Katherine Thalan [should be Phelan] of Valeria. In addition to the widow, two children survive. The children are Mrs. Wanda Shelker, near Rhodes and William, living at home. Mr. Blink is also survived by four brothers and four sisters. The brothers are George, Nevada; Albert, Nichols, Wis., Louis, 506 North Center street, Marshalltown, and Martin, Wetmore, Kan. The sisters are Mrs. Rose Welp, Haverhill; Mrs. Anna Retz, Onaka, S. D.; Mrs. Clara Marshall, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Ida Elliott, Belle Plaine.

The funeral was held at 10 o'clock this morning from St. Joseph's church at Rhodes, with Fathers Bucynsi and Frein in charge of the services. Burial was in the St. Joseph's cemetery at Rhodes.
