Funeral Services for Mrs. Henry Ostrem Held at Jewell

Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Ostrem, 75, who died at the home of her son, Dr. George Ostrem at 935 Eighth street, June 23, were held Friday afternoon.

Rites were held in the Lutheran church at Jewell, following a prayer service at the Morfoot Funeral home in Nevada. The services were in charge of Dr. J. O. Simon of Memorial Lutheran church, assisted by the pastor of the Jewell church. Burial was by the side of the husband, who had died about seven years ago.

The following life sketch of the deceased was read at the service:

Mrs. Henry Ostrem, nee Anna Kvale, was born in Kvals, Hardanger, Norway, December 15, 1860, the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. David Kvale, passed away at the Iowa Sanitarium and hospital in Nevada, Iowa, June 23, 1936, at 1:06 p. m.

She came to America in 1878 with an uncle and made her first residence in Kansas, a year later coming to Story City, Iowa, being employed by the family of Dr. Allen until her marriage to Henry Ostrem in 1884. After a short residence in Story City, they moved to Randall, and hen a little later to Jewell, Iowa, where they lived until 1916. At the time they moved to Monroe, Iowa, where they made their home for ten years. For the last ten years Mrs. Ostrem has made her home with her son, Dr. George Ostrem and family in Nevada, Iowa. Her husband, Henry Ostrem, preceded her in death seven years exactly to the day and hour.

To Mr. and Mrs. Ostrem were born six children, five sons and one daughter, three of them having died in infancy. Surviving her are three sons: Attorney S. Louis of Des Moines, Dr. George of Nevada and Dr. Edward H. of Joice, Iowa. Also surviving are several brothers and one sister, living in Norway, and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Ostrem was a devoted and loving wife and mother. Nothing was too good for her dear ones; no thought too deep; no toil too great; no work too arduous for the welfare of her home; no sacrifice too great for her family. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and has been an active and willing helper in the church and its organizations Early in life she accepted her Savior and to her passing has held him her Help and Redeemer. In this beautiful faith of the Lord, she passed quietly to the Great Beyond, knowing the He was providing a Heavenly Home for his faithful and loving children."
