Life Sketch of Andrew Schwartz Who Died at McCallsburg

McCallsburg, June 9--The funeral of Andrew Schwartz, who passed away at his home here early Sunday morning at the age of 51 years was held at the Evangelical church in Radcliffe Tuesday afternoon with his pastor Rev. Russel in charge. Following a short service at the home where the scripture reading was given by Rev. Russel and prayer by Rev. H. N. Bakke of the Bethany Lutheran church of McCallsburg and a duet "Home" was sung by Rev. and Mrs. Russel. The music at the church was furnished by Miss Carrol Klatt and Miss Hazel Hoffman with Miss Janet Maddox at the piano, singing "Some Day the Silver Chords Will Break," "Have Thine Own Way" and "No Night There."

The pallbearers were Edd Bergland, Andrew Bergland, Bert Bergland, Rasmus Thompson, Adam Appel and John Schauper all of McCallsburg.

The many floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. F. E. Nail of McCallsburg and Mrs. Emma Lenning of Radcliffe. Burial was made in the Tipton cemetery north east of Radcliffe.

Andrew Schwartz, son of Ferdinand and Mary Schwartz was born in Sherman township in Hardin county March 30, 1887 where he grew to manhood and spent the greater part of his life.

On February 15, 1910 he was united in marriage to Miss Amanda Nassen and shortly after settled on a farm one mile west of Sherman where they lived many years. In 1931 they moved onto a farm southeast of Garden City and later to McCallsburg.

In October 1909 he was converted into the Tipton church in revival services conducted by Rev. H. C. Schleter and on October 17 united with the church. He later transferred his membership to the Evangelical church in Radcliffe.

Burial was made in the Tipton cemetery northeast of Radcliffe.

Mr. Schwartz has been in failing health for some time but his condition was not considered serious until he failed to respond to treatment and was taken to Des Moines for an X-ray where it was found the trouble was of a tubercular nature and no hope was held out for improvement and less than a week he passed away.

Mr. Schwartz's condition was one of long standing having suffered an attack of pneumonia in 1917 which left his lung in weakened condition and susceptable to the dread disease which in as usual way without warning to the patient has gathered him into its grip.

Mr. Schwartz has form some time been carrying the mail for the Rock Island depot to the post office twice a day.

He is survived by the wife, a daughter Ilo and son Orval; one brother, Leo Schwartz, three brothers having preceded him, one of the George about two months ago and William 1936.

Schwartz and sons Gerald Wayne and Marion, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Kuzrov, Mr. and Mrs. Le- Nassen and daughter Audrey, Mr. and Mrs. C----- Nassen, Walter and Inez Schwartz of Buckeye, [a large section of this paragraph is unreadable] Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nassen and daughter Alice, Raymond Seivert, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Faust and children Marion and Georgia, all of Hubbard, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Haas of Iowa Falls.

Others who attended at the church from away were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Nassen of Iowa Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Nassen of Story City, Mrs. Augusta Abbot, Mrs. Lydia Morgan, Mrs. Louise Armstrong all from Minnesota; Miss Clara Nassen of Radcliffe and Mrs. Lula Tessenor of Steamboat Rock and Martin Bergland of McCallsburg.
