Former Local Blacksmith Dies At Ames Friday

Funeral Services for Daniel Roseburrough Held Sunday at Ames

Daniel Roseburrough, an old settler, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lou Elliot, in Ames at 10 o'clock Friday morning at the age of 97 years. Death was due to a complication of diseases and his advanced age.

Mr. Roseburrough was well known in Hardin, Marshall and Story counties having spent some fifty years of his life here. He was born in Canada on Sept. 15, 1834, the third of a family of fourteen children. He came to Illinois with his parents when five years old and moved to Union in 1861 where he was united in marriage to Miss Lovica Ann Samus in 1864. He later came to State Center where he was engaged in the blacksmith trade until he went to California and lived there until 1918 when because of failing health he returned to live with his son, Bert at Clemons. For the past eight years he had made his home with his daughter.

He is survived by two sons, Bert, at Clemons and Guy to Spokane, Wash., one daughter, Mrs. Effie Elliot, nineteen grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters. His wife and two sons preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at the Adams Funeral home in Ames on Sunday afternoon at 1:30. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery in Story county. The pall bearers were six grandsons, Ray, Carl and Bert Roseburrough, Jay and Earl Elliot and Clifford Cochran. Relatives from away in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Elliot of Rockford, Ill., Mr. ad Mrs. Ray Roseburrough of State Center, Mr. and Mrs. Bertie Roseburrough and daughters Shirley and Donna and Carl Roseburrough of Marshalltown, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Roseburrough and Mrs. and Mrs. Clemons.
