Hartung Funeral Sunday Afternoon

Special to the Journal.
Maxwell, July 13--The funeral services of W. J. Hartung were held Sunday afternoon at the Presbyterian church in Maxwell with Rev. B. H. Guthrie assisted by Rev. W. M. Scheuermann in charge. The church was filled to its capacity with relatives and friends paying their last respects to Mr. Hartung. Music was furnished by a men's double quartette composed of Messrs. Ross Olinger, Harry Fackler, Claire Olinger, James Olinger, Gerton Nelson, Clark John, Earl Bowen and Lyle Scott with Mrs. Will John at the piano.

Pall bearers were Messrs C. B. French, Ray Beal, Emmet Scott, Charles Ray, Ernest Woods and O. W. Parker.

The obituary as read follows:

Wm. J. son of Wm. and Mary Hartung was born June 4, 1873 in Washington township, Polk county, Iowa, and on July 7, 1932, at the age of 59 years, one month and 3 days he passed away near his home north of Maxwell when he came to his death through an accident.

Thirty-eight years ago on March 10, 1894 he was united in marriage to Miss Eva Osborn. For two years Mr. Hartung and his wife live at the old Hartung residence. Later he moved to his farm north of Maxwell where he spent the remainder of his life.

Mr. Hartung had long been a prominent factor in the business, civic, social and religious life of the community. He had served as vice president of the Peoples State bank and at the time of his death was a director of the Farmers State bank.

He was very devoted to the Presbyterian church serving as a trustee for the past four years and was a faithful and regular attendant at all services. He was a man of many fine characteristics and one who enjoyed doing for others.

For the past several years he has spent much time in the care of his invalid wife. He leaves besides his wife, three sisters, Mrs. Ursula Carver, and Mrs. Geo. Mowen of Maxwell and Mrs. Mary Ruifork [should be Ruifrok] of Saginaw, Michigan, one brother Fred of Seattle, Washingon, one brother Walter whose home was in California preceded him in death.

A host of friends are left who will mourn his loss greatly.

Interment was in the Peoria cemetery.
