William Gearhart was Buried Sunday at Collins Cemetery

Collins, July 13--Funeral services for the late William H. Gearhart, who died Friday afternoon, July 20, were held from the Collins Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. E. A. Cachell of Colo in charge of the services.

A quartet composed of Mrs. O. N. Serbein, Colla Wood, E. S. Stuntz and J. R. Witmer with Mrs. Hugh Fertig at the piano sang "Have Thine Own Way," "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Sweetly Resting."

Pallbearers were old friends of the deceased and were C. G. Vasey, J. E. Hale, Chas. Wade, Chas. Waltz, Lon Franklin and Glen Tilton.

Burial was in the Collins cemetery by the side of the wife, who died several years ago.

The following obituary was read at the services by Rev. Cochell.

William H. Gearhart, son of Conrad L. and Sarah Francis Gearhart was born in Licking county, Ohio, September 7, 1864 and departed this life July 10, 1936, age 71 years, 10 months and three days.

When one year of age, he moved with his parents from Ohio to Story county where they located on a farm three and one-half miles south of Colo and it was there he grew to manhood.

On January 21, 1888 he was united in marriage to Louisa Burwell and to this union two children were born, Spencer C. of Newton and Vera of Marshalltown.

For many years he and his family made their home on a farm in the Dalton community later he and his wife moving to Collins and it was here that his wife died.

After her death he made his home with his sisters in Maxwell, with his daughter Vera near Colo and finally with his son, Spencer, in Newton.

For several years he had been in failing health, later suffering a hip fracture that hastened the end.

He leaves to mourn his passing his son Spencer, daughter Vera and seven grandchildren, also two brothers and three sisters, Alva of Colo, Harley of Fernald, Mrs. Rose Smith, Mrs. Ollie Dickinson and Mrs. Flora Fish, all of Maxwell.
