Funeral Services for Mrs. Ruth Fish at Collins Saturday

Special to the Journal.
Collins, July 13--Funeral services for the late Mrs. C. E. Fish, 39, of Collins, who passed away at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, later Thursday afternoon, were held Saturday afternoon at 11:00 o'clock from the home with the Rev. J. Frank Moore of Manchester, a long time friend, speaking kindly, comforting words of sympathy an appreciation for the life of service as it was exemplified in the life of the deceased. Music was furnished by Mrs. L. M. Hall and C. R. Stone. Mrs. Hall sang one song "Crossing the Bar" accompanied by Mrs. Stone who later played softly while preparations were being made for the short drive to the cemetery.

The floral offerings were beautiful, seeming to fill the home of overflowing and were most appropriate for Mrs. Fish had been great lover of flowers, growing quantities of them, so as to have them in her home and to give to others. They were arranged and carried to the cemetery by Mrs. Ora Hanson, Mrs. Lloyd Cummings and Mrs. O. N. Serbein. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery and pallbearers were chosen from close friends of the family, they were Forrest and Guy Cooper, Howard Couch, Geo. Cole, Claude Mingle of Maxwell and Harold Tipton of Nevada.

The following brief life sketch a part of which was read by Rev. Moore: Ruth McIntosh Fish, eldest daughter of the late William D. and Edna S. McIntosh, was born on Sept. 17, 1896 at Manchester, Ia. There she grew to womanhood and after graduating from the Manchester high shcool, attended Iowa State college in Ames graduating with the class of 1918. During her attendance at college she became affiliated with the Alpha Delta Phi sorority.

The year following her graduation there she taught in the high school at Hazelton and on July 16, 1919 she was united in marriage to C. E. Fish of Collins and here their home had been since with the exception of two years spent at Algona where Mr. Fish served as assistant county agent.

She leaves besides her husband three children, Margaret Jane 15, Ruth Ann 11 and Charles Lester 4. There are also two sisters Mrs. Juliette Gratke of Edgewood, Ia., and Mrs. Gladys Nesmith of Kellogg. An aunt Juliette Pierce of San Pedro, Calif., moved to Collins a few months ago to make her home near her niece. Mrs. Fish was active in church and social and civic affairs of the community.

She was up until the time of her illness, which became alarming about a month ago, an active worker in the Methodist church and its auxiliary organizations, she was a past matron of the O. E. S. and past president of the Legion Auxiliary, a member of the Collins Garden club, Cemetery society and P. T. A., as well as several social clubs including the Indian Creek Golf and Country club at Nevada.

It seems as though her relatives, friends and acquaintances were numberless and during the time the body lay in state in the hallway of her lovely home, as well as at the funeral services, Saturday forenoon, they came for miles to pay their respects, extend their sympathy and express their regret at her early passing.

The following were among those attending from a distance: Mr. and Mrs. Wm. H. McCrary, Kansas City, Mo., Dr. and Mrs. C. O. Foster, Lewis Van Nostrand, Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Raymond George, Grinnell, Mesdames H. M. Macey, J. M. Gilriath, M. J. Thorpe, M. J. Moberly, Kellogg; Mr. and Mr. C. A.
