Mabe Funeral Was Held On Thursday

Funeral services for Bert Mabe, 66, well known Story county farmer which were held at the Methodist Episcopal church in Nevada on Thursday afternoon were largely attended. Interment was in the Nevada cemetery.

The services were in charge of Dr. C. D. Loose.

Two organizations of which the deceased had been an active member while his health permitted, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, No. 104 and the Nevada Rebekah lodge No. 234, where present in body. He had been a highly respected member of both organizations for a number of years and his death will leave a vacancy in both which only time will fill.

Pallbearers were selected from his long-time neighbors and friends. They included Ernest G. French, Newt Frey, R. A. Robison, Leslie McBride, John Wycoff and Janes Quigley.

The floral offerings were many and beautiful and testified to the esteem in which the deceased had been held.

Those from out of town in attendance at the funeral services were George Preston and son, Valmar, and Mrs. Wm. Snyder of Belle Plaine, Mr. and Mrs. James Jenkins and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Edgren of Des Moines.

The following obituary was read by Dr. Loose:

"Bert Mabe was born at Dubuque, Ia., on Feb. 11, 1870 and departed this life on the evening of Dec. 30, 1935 at the Iowa sanitarium.

He was orphaned at the age of 13 and in a few years came to Nevada where he worked for Mr. Shugart.

He was married at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Shugart on July 4, 1899 to Mary E. Brown* of Iowa Center.

In the spring of 1906 he and his wife moved on the farm south of Nevada where he and Mr. Shugart have since farmed in partnership.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, one brother, Charles Mabe, wife and two sons of Manlius, New York, and his other brother, Ray [should be Roy], wife and two sons of near Nevada.

He was a kind, loving husband and leaves a host of friends and neighbors who held him in the highest esteem."
