Funeral Services for Late Joseph Vasey

Collins, Aug. 3--Funeral services for the late Joseph Vasey, who passed away Friday afternoon at his home in Collins, were held from the Collins Methodist church at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. I. Roberts in charge, assisted by Rev. Ray Thompson of the local U. B. church. A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Curtis March, Miss Calla Wood, E. S. Stuntz and Tom Huntrods, with Mrs. Fred Mead at the piano sang "There's a Light in the Valley," "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Saved By Grace." The floral offerings were arranged by the church and cemetery by Mrs. J. E. Hale and Mrs. O. N. Serbein. Interment was in the Evergreen cemetery at Collins and the pall bearers were J. E. Hale, Warren Kitchell, Fred Mead, Ralph Vasey, Curtis Marsh and Ernest Maxwell. The obituary was as follows:

Joseph Vasey, a son of Richard and Rebecca Vasey was born at Yorkshire, England, Jan. 28, 1860 and passed away at his home in Collins, Friday afternoon, July 30 at 4:00 o'clock at the age of 77 years, 6 months and 12 days. He came to America with his parents when but a babe, settling near Jacksonville, Ill., where he grew to manhood At the age of 29 he came to Jasper county, Iowa, and engaged in farming. On October 26, 1902 he was united in marriage to Miss Charlotte Berry of Jasper county and twenty-four years ago they retired from the farm and moved to Collins, where he live an industrious and useful life. Although no a member of the church, he was always in attendance at the church services as long as his health permitted. His outstanding characteristic was his love for his home and in quiet kindly way made all who came there feel welcome. He will be missed by all who knew him and enjoyed a large circle of friends. He is survived by his wife and one brother, George Vasey of Collins, also many other relatives. His parents, two brothers and one sister had preceded him in death. Mr. Vasey had been in poor health for a number of years. His last illness covering a period of four months.

Relatives from a distance attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Stevens, Mrs. Belle Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jackson all of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Clement, Mrs. Ellen Moore and Mrs. Stell Millett of Newton, Mrs. A. D. Berry, Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Wastier and Mrs. Mattie Gibson all of Baxter and Abe Clement and daughter Gladys of Farrar.
