Funeral Rites Held Tuesday for C. L. McQuiston

Collins, June 8--Funeral services for the late Charles L. McQuiston, 84, were held Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from the Collins Methodist church with his pastor, Rev. Charles Fix, in charge.

Music was furnished by a trio composed of Mrs. C. R. Stone and the Misses Jeane Tipton and Calla Wood, with Miss Dorothy Kracht at the piano. Three songs were sung, "The Old Rugged Cross," "Sweetly Resting," and "God Be With You 'Til We Meet Again." The floral offerings were beautiful and were arranged at the church and grave by Mrs. Sam Hyatt and Mrs. O. N. Serbein.

Pallbearers were P. J. Wetrich, J. E. Hale, G. F. Holland, Dan Wilson, Ellsworth Campbell and Harve Southern. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery at Collins.

The following is a brief sketch of the life of the deceased.

Charles L. McQuiston, son of Perry and Catherine McQuiston, was born on a farm near Collins on May 17, 1856, and died Sunday, June 2, at 5:00 p. m., at the age of 84 years and 15 days.

He was reared in this community and int 1883 was united in marriage to Miss Rose Holmes, also of this community.

To them were born three children, two daughters and one son. They are Mrs. Effie Marsh, Mrs. Maude Hyatt and Oran McQuiston, all living in or near Collins.

The greater part of his life was spent on the farm, but the later years were lived in Collins and it was in this home that he passed away after an illness of several months.

He was interested in the affairs of the community and at on time was a member of the Odd Fellows and Masonic orders. He was interest in the Methodist church and had been a member for 60 years, being very active in the work of the church until his health failed.

He is survived by his wife,, his three children one grandson, two sisters, Mrs. Rose Holmes of Des Moines, Mrs. George Vasey of Collins and one brother, C. P. McQuiston of Colfax.

The deceased was a true pioneer of this part of Iowa, having lived his entire life here. He gained the respect of this community for his honest and upright life and will be long remembered by neighbors and friends for his many acts of kindness and words of encouragement.
