THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, November 1, 1906, page 1, column 3. "GONE TO HER REWARD - Mrs. John Doty departed this life at the women's building of the Soldiers Home at Marshalltown, Friday evening at 7:30 o'clock. The cause of her death being the infirmities of old age. The deceased was the widow of the late John Doty and for many years were among the most respected citizens of this place. Father Doty was one of the prominent men of the G. A. R. association having filled the position as drummer for several years. They were also among the active workers of the church circles. Some years since the aged couple entered the Soldiers Home where Father Doty passed away being afflicted like his companion with the weakness of old age. The funeral was conducted from the Chapel of the Home Monday at ten o'clock and interred in the Home Cemetery."
