"Jesse Milton Christy was born in Tipton county, Indiana, on June 25, 1857; he lived in Indiana until he was twenty-one years of age, when he moved to southern Illinois, where he met and married Alice B. Rothrock, the marriage ceremony being performed on February 23, 1886, at Effingham, Illinois. They established their home in Champaign county, Illinois, where they lived until 1906, when they came to a farm near Cambridge in Story county, Iowa. There they lived until March 1917, when they moved to an acreage near Nevada, where they remained for about three years before moving into the town.

His beloved wife passed away in June, 1936, but six of their eight children survive him Artie M., Freeman, Jesse C., Mrs. R. W. Alexander, Mrs. L. W. Alexander, all of Nevada; and Herbert, of Ames. Their first-born died in infancy and the youngest son, Harold, preceded his father in death seven years ago. Also left to mourn his passing are fifteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

After the death of his wife, Mr. Christy spent his remaining years with his daughter, Mrs. L. W. Alexander in Nevada until a few months prior to his death, when he went to make his home with his son, Herbert, in Ames. He passed away on Easter Sunday, April 9, at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 14 days."
