Funeral rites for Mamie Thornton, widow of the late W. P. Thornton, were held at 2 o'clock in Colo. Reverend O. E. Cooley of the Nevada Methodist church was in charge. Burial was in the Colo cemetery.

Flowers were in charge of Mrs. M. H. Koch, Mrs. T. A. Cumming and Miss Mable Schoonover.

Pall bearers were D. M. Dickinson, M. H. Koch, Ross White, Herbert White, C. H. Dickinson and John Dawson.

Mrs. Theron Case, accompanied by Irene Dobson of Nevada sang "Someday You'll Understand" and "No Disappointment in Heaven."

During the services the following obituary was read:

Mamie Bell McGibbon was born at Mitchell, South Dakota, December 11, 1872 and died at her home in Nevada, Iowa, June 7, 1944, at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 27 days. Her childhood was spent in the Dalton neighborhood.

On the ninth day of February, 1889, she was united in marriage to William P. Thornton, who preceded her in death August 21, 1939. To this union were born thirteen children, all surviving except one daughter, Dorothy, who died in infancy. The children surviving are Ralph of Colo, Mrs. Elsie Dickinson of Colo, Mrs. Verlie Handsaker of Nevada, George and Clarence of State Center, Mrs. Nellie Harris of Los Angeles, Calif., Charles of Endeavor, Wis., Frank of Pasadena, Calif., Ross of the R. C. A. F. of Winnepeg, Canada, Raymond of Des Moines, Herbert of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Helen Fausch of Nevada.

Mrs. Thornton was at all times thinking of the welfare of her children and grandchildren. She was a true and loving mother and will be sadly missed by her family, relatives and friends.

All that loving hands could do was not able to keep this mother dear in her earthly home. God has called her to a fairer home. Besides her children she leaves to mourn her passing twenty-one grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one brother and two sisters, and two sisters-in-law.

Mrs. Thornton was a member of the Colo Methodist church.
