Masonic Services Held Thursday for Charles Henry Martin

Funeral services for Charles Henry Martin,, native son of Nevada, who passed away Monday, July 17, in Winchester, Kansas, at the age of 85 years, were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Morfoot Funeral Home with the Reverend O. E. Cooley of the Nevada Methodist church in charge.

The deceased was affiliated with Nevada lodge No. 99, A. F. and A. M., since March 5, 1886. This lodge was in charge of the Masonic service held.

The body was accompanied by nieces and nephews and members of their families from Winchester, Kans., arriving here at 8 a. m. Thursday morning. This group included Roy Martin and daughter Betty Louise, Mr. and Mrs. John Du Bois and daughter Edna and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Martin. Two nephews in the service of their country, Pfc. Gerald T. Martin of North Carolina and Cpl. Kenneth Martin of Mississippi were also here at the last rites.

The following obituary was read at the funeral services.

"Charles Henry Martin, son of Sepman and Mary Ann Martin, was born at Nevada, Iowa, on May 10, 1858, and departed this life on July 17, 1944.

"He grew to manhood at Nevada. He and his mother moved to Valley Falls in the spring of 189. In the spring of 1901 he moved to his present home northeast of Winchester and lived there until two weeks prior to his death when he was taken to a convalescent home in Leavenworth where he passed away.

"His father answered the call and died in battle in the Civil War in 1864. His mother passed away at their home at Winchester in November, 1921. His brother, Frank, and sister, Juda, preceded him in death. He and his mother made a home for his niece and three nephews. Two nephews, Floyd McKee and Fred Martin, preceded him in death.

"Uncle Charlie" as he was generally known by everyone, took great interest in his nephews' and niece's children. He always had time to stop and visit and he loved to have company.

"He is survived by his nephew, Roy, niece Chloe Du Bois, eight great nephews and nieces, two of which are in the armed service, and three great great nieces in whom he took great interest."
