Obituary of William Ernest Hudson
William Ernest Hudson was born Jan. 29, 1900, at Seymour, Iowa from the union of Bessie Estella Hudson and John Lewis Hudson; and departed this life at Maxwell, Iowa, Sept. 18, 1945, at the age of 45 years, 7 months, and 29 days.
The family later moved to Newton where William spent most of his life, and attended the Christian Church as a boy. When the U. S. entered World War I William responded to the call, serving his country during the war period.
On Dec. 20, 1924, he was united in marriage to Ola Dawson on Newton. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Barbara Hummell of Newton, and Aline Hudson of Maxwell, who survive the deceased. When World War II was raging, William again volunteered Sept. 26, 1942, as a chief motor machinist in the Navy, receiving an honorable discharge, April 5, 1945, after seeing duty in the southwest Pacific.
After living a short time on an acreage, the family purchased a restaurant in Maxwell, Iowa, living there since June 2 of this year. The deceased was a member of the Maxwell American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Newton.
Besides his parents, wife and two daughters, and little grandson, Forest LeRoy Hummel, Jr., he leaves to mourn his departure an only sister, Mrs. Gayle Childs, Des Moines, four half-sisters, Mrs. Abbie Samuels, Newton, Mrs. Earl Snooks, Newton, Mrs. Bernice Troutioten of the W. A. C., and Mrs. Cecil Montgomery, Newton, in the service, James Hannegan, Oakland, Calif., and and Don Hannegan of Newton, besides other relatives and friends.
SUBMITTER'S NOTE: William Hudson's mother's maiden name was Bessie Estella Goforth. She apparently married at least three times: (1) to John Lewis Hudson by whom she had William and his sister, Gail, (2) James Hannagan by whom she had several children and (3) James Rohrer.
