Funeral Services Were Held For Anna Kathryn Schafer

Funeral services for Anna Kathryn Schafer, 52, who passed away Sunday, September 16, at her home near Colo were held Tuesday afternoon with a prayer service at her home at 1:30 followed by a service at the Brimhall-West Funeral Home in State Center at 2 p. m. with Chas. Lehman of Colo in charge of both services.

The ball bearers were Joe Streeter, Homer Streeter, Clifford King, Edgar Hemping, Ralph Smith, and Harold Smith. The funeral hymns were sung by Mrs. Walter Bamford, Rev. Russell, Mrs. Chas. Yeager and Clifford Hemping. Mrs. Merle Dickinson was at the piano. The flowers were many and beautiful.

Another service was held Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p. m. at the Methodist church in Alexandria, S. D. with the Rev. Slocum officiating. Committal was in the Green Hill cemetery at Alexandria. here the pall bearers were nephews of the deceased.

The following obituary was read at both services:

Anna Kathryn Schater was born in Sioux County, Iowa, June 29th, 1893 and passed away at her home near Colo, Iowa, Sept. 16, 1945 at the age of 52 years, two months and 17 days following an illness of several months.

She moved with her parents to South Dakota in 1905 where she spent 26 years of her life, moving near Colo, Iowa in 1931.

Her father, mother, three sisters and one brother preceded her in death, her mother passing away just two months ago.

She leaves to mourn her loss one brother and three sisters, Frank N. Schafer of Boyden, Iowa, Mrs. Mary DeWeerd of St. James, Minn., Mrs. Gertrude Garn of Long Beach, Calif. and Mrs. Mabel Barrett of Colo, Iowa with whom she made her home. She had kind loving nature and to know her was to love her she was a great lover of flowers, gardening and animals and made that her life work.

Her greatest joy was in sharing with others. She was very patient and cheerful during her last illness, always thinking of those who cared for her.

She will be greatly missed by her brother, sisters and other relatives and friends.
