Last Rites for Mrs. Mary Craig Thursday Afternoon

McCallsburg, Aug. 6 -- The funeral services for Mrs. Mary Craig were held Thursday afternoon at the Presbyterian church following a prayer service at the home with her pastor, Rev. James D. Ransom in charge.

The pall bearers were W. H. Harlan of Nevada, Amos Hanson, John Hauptly, W. T. Tett, Guy Mills, and Albert Tolly. The beautiful flowers were cared for by Mrs. H. T. Christiansen and Ms. Walter Rasmussen, and the music was furnished by Mrs. F. E. Nail who sang "Rose of Sharon" and Mr. and Mrs. Otis Boyd who sang "Saved by Grace", the same song was sung by Mr. and Mrs. Boyd at the funeral of Mr. Craig in Roland. Miss Cleo Tett was accompanist. Henry Mehlow was usher. Burial was on the family lot at Minburn, Ia.

Mrs. Fannie Graves, Mrs. John Hauptly, Mrs. John Schauper and Miss Cleo Tett served dinner for the family at noon.

Mary Louisa Roush, daughter of John F. and Catherine Roush, was born in Dallas county, Iowa, February 16, 1857, and passed away at her home in McCallsburg July 30, 1946 at the age of 89 years.

She was united in marriage to Dr. John Craig in Minburn, Iowa, July 4, 1876.

To this union were born five children, Willie so died in infancy, Charlie of McCallsburg, Etta, now Mrs. C. H. Pendelbury of Colorado Springs, Col., Genevieve sho was Mrs. W. A. Hines who died in 1941 and Catherine of McCallsburg.

The Craig family lived in Minburn and Des Moines unitl 1889 when they moved to Ayrshire, where Dr. Craig practiced for 26 years. When he retired they moved to Roland where Mr. Craig died in 1919.

In 1920 the family home was established in McCallsburg where Mrs. Craig spent the rest of her years. In recent year her health began to fail when she was lovingly cared for by Catherine and Charlie and other members of the family when they could be here, and for the past year and a half assisted by Miss Violet Larson, R. N. of Roland. In her long illness she was uncomplaining and was very appreciative of everything done for her.

Mrs. Craig was a member of the Presbyterian church and an active member of the church organizations and the Sunday school, being a member of the Pilgrim class and of the Missionary and Dorcas societies.

Mr. and Mrs. Craig were charter members of the Methodist church in Minburn and after coming to McCallsburg transferred her membership to the Presbyterian church.

She is survived by the son Charlie, and daughters Etta and Catherine and by four grandsons, Dr. E. C. Pendelbury of LaPorte City, Ia., Harly Pendelbury of Mill Valey, Cal., Kenneth Hines of St. Paul, and Benny Hines of Minneapolis and by two great granddaughters, Ann Pendelbury of LaPorte City and Linda Lee Pendelbury of Mill Valley, Cal. Mrs. Craig is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Clark Potter of Jefferson, Ia., who now is the last survivor of a family of seven boys and four girls.

Mrs. Craig will be missed greatly not only by relatives, but also by all the many friends she has made throughout the years. Her pleasant disposition, smiling face, alert mind and quiet faith in God made a deep and lasting impression on all who met her.

Among those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Pendelbury of Colorado Springs, Col., Dr. and Mrs. E. C. Pendelbury of LaPorte City, Ia., MR. and Mrs. Kenneth Hines of St. Paul, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Hines of Marshalltown, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lindquist of St. Anthony, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Harlan, Mrs. Huddleston, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Morris and son of Nevada, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hammond of Radcliffe, Mr. and Mrs. Otis Boyd, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Mein, Dr. Snyder, Miss Violet Larson, R. N., Mrs. Rachael Simmons and Mrs. Hackensmith of Roland, Mrs. Oscar Johnson, Mrs. Wm. Stevenson of Nevada, and Miss Grinde of Story City. Two grandsons, Benny Hines of Minneapolis and Harley Pendelbury of Mill Valley, Cal., were unable to her here for the funeral.
