Services Held for Mrs. Howard Sheldahl In Story City

Story City, Oct. 3: Funeral services for Mrs. Howard Sheldahl were held at the farm home at 1:15 p. m. Monday, Sept. 30 and at the Immanuel Lutheran Church at 2 o'clock, Rev. Samuel Carlsen officiating. Miss Lillian Alsager sang "Ben Store Hvite Flok" and "I'm But a Stranger Here, Heaven Is My Home, " at the church. Mrs. Arvie Jacobson presided at the organ. Pall bearers were Donald Johnson, Gaylord Johnson, Virgil Hanson, Vernon Christianson, John Adams and Eugene Sheldahl.

Obituary.

Mrs. Mathilda Sheldahl, daughter of Lewis and Cicelia Fatland, was born July 15, 1892, on a farm south of Huxley, Iowa, and passed away September 26, 1946, aged 54 years. In 1909 she was united in marriage to Howard Sheldahl of Huxley. To them were born eight children. Two, Amanda and Vivian, preceded her in death. The children left to mourn her departure are Mrs. John Tracy of Davenport, Everett Sheldahl of Polk City, Mrs. Esther Brown, Hubert, Helen, and David of Story City.

Mrs. Sheldahl was baptized and confirmed in the Fjeldberg Lutheran Church at Huxley. After her marriage while she resided in the Huxley community she was a member of the Palestine Lutheran Church and the Palestine Ladies Aid. After moving to the Story City community she became a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Chursh and aid at Story City.

Mrs. Sheldahl was ill at her home for more than a week when she was taken to the Story City hospital where an emergency operation was performed on September 16. She seemed to be recovering very nicely until on September 26 when her heart began to fail resulting in her death.

Mrs. Sheldahl's entire life was devoted to the care of her family and home.

Those left to mourn her death are her husband, six children, and seven grandchildren, three sisters: Mrs. Knut Ryan of Slater, Mrs. Ole Hansen of Huxley, Mrs. Andrew Sesker of Cambridge, and two brothers: Harry Fatland of Rockwell, Ia, and Hector Fatland of Huxley, besides a host of more distant relatives and friends.
