THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, July 28, 1949, page 1, column 3. "TWO PROMINENT CITIZENS PASSED AWAY. - Fred Brown - Fred Brown of Des Moines passed away at Cedar Falls, Iowa on July 24 at 2:45 p. m. after an illness of one week having suffered a heart attack on Sunday, July 17. Surviving are his wife, Lillian Brown, three sons, Charles L. of Albuquerque, N. M., Edgar L. of Salem, Oregon and Loren D. of Des Moines; three daughters, Sylvia Strauss of Post Falls, Idaho, Velzora Flanagan of Cedar Falls and Margaret Palkovic of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two brothers, Harve** of Nevada and Harvey** of Emmetsburg and two sisters, Alice Cummings of Maxwell and Myrtle Edwards of Perry. Also twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Fred Brown, son of William and Nancy Brown, was born on May 16, 1879 and passed away at the age of 70 years, two months and 8 days. On April 16, 1899 he was united in marriage to Lillian Lint. Preceding him in death were two sons, Levi and Ivan. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Maxwell Church of Christ with Rev. Elmer Baker in charge. Carol Scott sang, "Why Does He Love Me So?" accompanied by Geraldine Myers at the Organ. The pallbearers were Howard and Elmer Cummings, Lyle Jay, Bernice Brown, Sam Strauss and Freddie Brown.
