Last Rites for W. C. Rupp in Maxwell
Funeral services for W. C. Rupp long time resident of Maxwell, who passed away on Thursday at the Iowa Lutheran hospital after an illness of about two weeks, were held Saturday, Sept. 28 in Cooper's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Mahannah, of the Church of Christ officiating.
Mrs. Ray Gooden, soloist, sang "No Tears in Heaven" and "Day is Dying in the West" with Mrs. Ned Pearson, accompanist at the organ. Rev. Mahannah read the following obituary and in conclusion gave Tennyson's poem, "Crossing the Bar."
Pall-bearers were W. E. Van Hook, Virgil Swarm, Harry Gibson, Ole Hulderson, L. E. McQuiston and R. Z. Brown.
Flora tributes were many and very beautiful.
Burial was made in the family lot in the Maxwell cemetery where the services were in charge of I. O. O. F. lodge.
Wilson Cecil Rupp, son of Peter and Lorinda Rupp, was born March 30, 1879 in Morrell, Brown county, Kansas; and departed this life Sept. 26, 1946 at the age of 67 years, 5 months, and 27 days in the Iowa Lutheran Hospital at Des Moines.
At the age of three he came to Iowa with his parents, who settled in the vicinity of Maxwell, and whee he has spent his life.
On July 31, 1898 he was united in marriage with Mary J. Davis, who preceded him in death approximately five years ago. Also preceding him in death were his parents.
The deceased was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Maxwell, and on Dec. 20, 1916 became affiliated with Social Lodge No. 463 Independent Order of Odd Fellows, serving as Noble Grand from Jan. 1, 1925 to July 1, 1925.
Remaining to mourn his passing are his brothers, William P. and George P. Rupp both of Maxwell, numerous other relatives and friends.
