THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, April 17, 1958, page 1, column 3. "ELLEN MAE BROWN. - Last rites were held Saturday, April 12, in the Cooper Funeral Home for Ellen Mae Brown, Rev. Stanley Farmer, of the Presbyterian Church, officiating. Mrs. Alice Gooden accompanied by Madeline Summitt at the organ sang, "Beautiful Isle" and "In the Garden." Casket Bearers were E. L. Wood, Lyle Jay, Harry Gibson, Elmer Cummings, J. E. Ward and J. B. Scott. Interment was in the Iowa Center Cemetery. Ellen Mae Brown, daughter of George McCallister and Isbelle McQuire McCallister, was born September 1, 1877, at Cambridge, Iowa. After an illness of over a year she passed away April 9, 1958, at her home in Nevada, at the age of 80 years. Mrs. Brown was one of seven children, having four sisters and two brothers, all of whom have preceded her in death except one sister, Mrs. Harry L. Brown of Emmettsburg. On June 14, 1896, Ellen Mae McCallister and Harvey E. Brown were joined together in the holy bonds of matrimony, and to this marriage were born four daughters, Mrs. Virgil Carney, Mrs. E. A. Vincent, Mrs. Hazel Hormel of Nevada, and Mrs. C. F. Stone of Omaha, Nebraska. Mrs. Brown's husband preceded her in death, passing away October 6, 1953; as well as three grandchildren, two grandsons that died in the service of our country and Baby Judith who died in infancy. Although Mrs. Brown was baptized in infancy by the Roman Catholic Church, she grew up in the Protestant faith and attended the Presbyterian Church in Maxwell as long as she live in this community. Mrs. Ellen Mae Brown leaves to mourn her passing her sister, four daughters, 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and a host of relatives, friends and neighbors."
