THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, January 1, 1903, page 7, column 3. "D. R. Brown, one of the pioneer settlers of Story County, died at his home, five miles south of Nevada, on Christmas day. Mr. Brown was born in Fauquier county, Virginia, Sept. 16, 1820. He emigrated to Ohio in 1833 and in 1846 was married to Nancy E. Adams. In 1857 they moved to Iowa. Mr. Brown united with the Church of Christ in 1841 and at the time of his death was a member at Maxwell. He had been an invalid for thirty years, twenty of which he has been confined to his bed, and during his long period of suffering he has manifested unusual patience and christian character.
