THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, February 21, 1901, page 4, column 4. "Local News - Ira L. Bowman, a highly respected citizen of Zearing, committed suicide Sunday by taking morphine. He had been in poor health and despondent, was blind in one eye and the other failing him and had said to a friend that he would rather be dead than blind. He requested no funeral services should be held over his body."
