PROMINENT FARMER PASSES AWAY

John K. Johnson, Prominent Farmer Died last Thursday After A Lingering Illness of Four Months. Funeral Held Tuesday.

John K. Johnson passed away at his home, northwest of town, last Thursday evening, after suffering patiently for the last four months. Last April he was taken sick with pneumonia and had been confined to his bed ever since, a complication of diseases having set in. A week ago it became necessary to operate on him for an abscess of the lung, which operation was very successful and he seemed to be gaining and hopes for his recovery were encouraging. Thursday he suffered a relapse and gradually failed until death relieved his suffering. He was fully resigned to his faith, believing that when he died he would enter into the kingdom of the Saviour.

John K. Johnson was born in Story County in the month of September, [1860,] and died Aug. 1st, 1912, thus being 52 years old at the time of his death. He was the son of Mrs. Bertha Twedt, who is in her 85 year, and very feeble, being unable at any time to visit her son during his illness. He has from his earliest days been a member of the Norwegian Lutheran church, and remained a faithful member of the same until his death.

Mr. Johnson was married to Miss Bertha Gaard on June 13, 1888 and to them seven children were born; they are: Clara, Christine, Isabella, Clarence, Mayor, Carrie and Bervin. He is also survived by four brothers, namely Andrew K. Johnson, of North Dakota, James K. Johnson, of Story City, Jonas K. Johnson, of Randall and two sisters, Mrs. R. S. Dickinson of Gilbert, and Miss Anna Twedt of this place, all of whom were present at the funeral except Andrew.

The funeral services were held last Tuesday from Bergen church at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. Solum, of Story City preaching the funeral sermon, in the absence of his pastor, Rev. Smedal. A large number of neighbors and friends coming to pay their last respect.

Mr. Johnson died as he had lived, a faithful Christian man, loved by his family, and respected by all. The sorrowing ones are extended the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their sorrow.
