Interment in the Maxwell cemetery. The following obituary was read at the funeral service.

In a farm home, near Maxwell, Iowa, in the winter of 1886, January 12, a baby son was born to Silas J. and Mary Gamble Sherman. He was fondly welcomed as their third child, and was given the name of Sidney Gamble Sherman. (Only two of the three children reached adulthood, one passing away in infancy.)

When Sidney was about nine years of age, his father died. The mother, deciding to leave the farm, came to Maxwell to live. Here the lad grew into manhood. He attended the Maxwell schools; united with the Maxwell Presbyterian Church; showed an early interest in business.

In December 1908, he was married to Miss Hazel Cooper of Maxwell. To this union were born four children. The first of these, however, left a tiny trial of sorrow in the young parents' hearts, because her stay was very, very short. This home was one pleasantness, and a deep family tie drew and held all members closely together.

Mr. Sherman was proud of thirty-five years of uninterrupted business. His friendliness, goo business judgment, straightforwardness, gained him respect not only with those to whom he sold, but likewise from whom he bought. He was further proud of his fraternal connections. For twenty-five years he was member of the Odd Fellows lodge.

For ten years Sidney G. Sherman had not enjoyed a maximum of health, finding occasional hospital treatment entirely necessary. He was patient and cheerful even in the most severe moments. Since September 1946 he has been bed-fast in his own home, tenderly cared for through the devotion of those near to him and the trained and skilled hands of his own daughter. Early February 4, 1947, he departed his life -- age sixty one years and twenty-two days.

He leaves to mourn his departure his devoted wife; two sons, Wayne and Dean; one daughter, Patricia; one sister, Mrs. Bessie Olinger, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
