Funeral Services Held Thursday for George Houge
Slater, March 24 -- Funeral services for George Houge were held at the home Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. The services were in charge of Rev. Walter D. Berggren of Polk City.
Mrs. Edna Houge had charge of the floral offerings. A number of gifts of money to missions in memory of Mr. Houge were given by relatives and friends. Walter Christopher of Huxley, a nephew, sang two solos, "Some Sweet Day" and "S------ Tomorrow."
The pall bearers were Henry St----- of Roland, N--- Johnson of Radcliffe, Walter Christopher and Jeffrey Houge of Huxley, Olaf A---- of Sheldahl and Oley Houge of Slater.
Burial was made by the side of the wife in the Sheldahl cemetery north of Slater.
George Houge was born in Palestine township southeast of the Palestine church, Aug. 14, 1867, and died at his home in Slater March 18, 1947, at the age of 79 years, seven months and two days. His parents were Valborg and Oley Houge.
He spent his boyhood in Palestine township and later the family moved to a farm near Slater. He was confirmed by Rev. Osmond Sheldahl.
His marriage to Miss Hannah Johnson took place July 7, 1909. They made their home on a farm north of Slater for a number of years. About eight years ago they retired from farming and moved into Slater where they have since made their home.
Mr. Houge had been failing in health for sometime and when his wife died he became bedfast. Two weeks ---- he died from a heart attack.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Mary Christopher of Jackson, Minn. who was with him during his illness and death, and one brother Anfin Houge of McCloud, N. D. and a large number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Among out of town relatives and friends present at the funeral service were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Sime, Lee Christopher, Mrs. O---- Christopher and Mrs. Mary Christopher all of Jackson, Minn., Nobel Johnson of Radcliffe, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Stenson of Nevada.
