Funeral Services Held Monday For H. R. Sokol in Collins

Collins, Apr.-- Funeral service --- for the late H. R. Sokol who passed away -- ----- ----were --------- ---- ---- Methodist church Monday afternoon -- ---- - ------ -- Rev. -. -. W--gle was in charge ---- ------------ --- -------- impressive ----- of -----. ---- ---------- supported by Mrs. -------- ---- --by Mrs. C. R. Stone sand one song "The ----- ------ ------- for prayer.

The flowers were very beautiful and ---- ----- the entire front of the church. P---- the ----- ----- gifts of money --- ----- ------- to be used for missions.

Mrs. W. R. R-------, Mrs. G------- --- and Mrs. -- -- Serbein assisted with the flowers.

Interment was in Evergreen cemetery. The services there were in charge of the Masonic Order. The pallbearers were Dewey Kern, C. R. Stone, J. R. Hattery, R. D. McCord, Chas. Carr and Dr. N. H. Brinkman.

Obituary

Harry R. Sokol, son of George and Amanda Sokol, was born on March 4, 1889 at Monmouth, Ia., and departed this life on Saturday forenoon, March 28, 1948 at the age of 59 years and 23 days.

He grew to manhood in the town of his birth and graduated from the high school. After finishing a business course at Cedar Rapids he came to Collins as assistant cashier and later cashier of Exchange State bank.

In 1912 he accepted the position of cashier of the Kinross Savings Bank, living there about four years.

On Jan. 30, 1913 he was married to Myrna D. Fish of Collins and established their first home at Kinross. To this union three children were born namely, Harriett L. Van Nostrand, Cedar Rapids, Dr. C. R. Sokol, State Center and Geo. O. Sokol, Nevada.

In 1917 they returned to Collins, and during that years of his residence here he was actively engaged in business and civic work. He served as Post Master for a few years and later conducted a hardware business. He was always public spirited and served on numerous committees and boards in the town and county.

He was a member of the local Methodist church, Past Master of Fervent Lodge 513 AF and AM, Past Patron of Collins Chapter 134, Order of the Eastern Star the Consistory of Cedar Rapids and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Des Moines.

For over twenty years he was associated with the treasury department of the State Fair Board and because of all those activities he was widely known throughout the state. He enjoyed public work and continued to participate actively in most every way until just this past year.

The services were largely attend. Friends and relatives came from all parts of the state to pay their respects to one they had long known and lost awhile.

He is survived by his wife, the all three children, two sisters, Mrs. Earl Gilmore and Mrs. John Edwards of Monmouth, Ia., four grandchildren, Susan and Lise Van Nostrand and Steven and Barbara Sokol, several nieces and nephews and a host of more distant relatives and friends.

Harry as every one, old and young called him--will be greatly missed in the home and in the community. His friendly greeting and kindly interest in all about him will long be remembered.
