Charles Christian Final Rites Monday
McCallsburg, May 20--Funeral services for Charles E. Christian were held Monday afternoon at the Bethany Lutheran church with Pastor H. N. Bakke in charge. Mrs. J. O. Helland presided at the organ.
Mrs. F. Nail accompanied by Mrs. Roy Ringgenberg sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus". Mrs. B. A. Imsland and Mrs. G. E. DuBois sang "Lord I Am Coming Home". There were many beautiful bouquet of flowers and many gift to the church building fund and to charities and missions.
The pall bearers were Peter Egenes, Clarence Severson, Sam Holland, B. J. Ritland, Gerhard Malmin and Amos Hanson. The remains were laid to rest in the Warren Township cemetery beside those of the wife.
The pastor read the following obituary:
Charles E. Christian, a son of Ole and Julia Christian, was born near Morris, Ill., Dec. 27, 1875 and passed away at his home in McCallsburg May 13, 1948 at the age of 72 years, 4 months and 17 days. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church.
December 15, 1898 he was married to Leva Thompson of Roland. They began farming one mile west of McCallsburg and have lived there for 42 years. They moved to McCallsburg as Mrs. Christian was in very poor health. She passed away Jan. 12, 1944. Her husband continued to live alone in his town home.
This union was blessed with eight children. They are Beulah, Mrs. Ervin Morris; Charlotte, Mrs. Ross Morris; Junis, Mrs. Clea Arnold, all of McCallsburg; Gaylord and Fern, Mrs. Moklebust, Ames; Sanford of Yakima, Wash.; Oleda, Mrs. Levi Severson of Shelby; Leonard of Roland.
He is survived by 18 grandchildren and three great grandsons. Four brothers and three sisters, Tom of Minneapolis, Minn.; Henry of Kenyon, Minn.; Arne of Elmore, Minn.; John of Roalnd; Mrs. Eli Munson, Story City; Mrs. Emma Ericson of Roland, and Mrs Jane Ericson of Nevada.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Christian, Kenyon, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Peterson and Mrs. Bertha Christian, Blue Earth, Minn., Arne Christian, Elmore, Minn. and many friends and relatives from Roland, Marshalltown, State Center, Story City, Radcliffe, Garden City and Huxley.
