Hold Final Rites For Lafe Denton

Funeral services for Lafe Denton were held Monday afternoon, Jan. 3, in the Cambridge Evangelical United Brethren church with the Rev. LeRoy Sargent of Hudson in charge.

"The Old Rugged Cross," "Good Night and Good Morning" and "God Understands" were sung by Mrs. Arnold Nernes with Mrs. John Dyer at the piano.

The casket bearers were Harry and Carroll Louks, Harry and Blake Elliott and Ovid and David Louks.

Interment was in the Center Grove cemetery.

Obituary

Lafe Denton, son of Wash and Amanda Denton, was born Jan. 6, 1879, at Monon, Ind., and passed away at his home in Cambridge on Friday, Dec. 31, 1948, having reached the age of 69 years, 11 months and 25 days. On January 8, 1908, he was united in marriage to Ethel Louks and to this union ten children were born, Archie, Esther and Chester having preceded him in death. Lafe was well known in the Cambridge community, having lived here for the past 40 years. He was a good neighbor and always willing to lend a hand wherever it was needed. He was devoted to his family and reaped a bountiful harvest of love from them during his long illness.

Survivors

He is survived by his wife, Ethel, four daughters, Flossie Severson of Slater, Florence Mishler of Maxwell, Martha Maland and Agnes Eliott of Cambridge, three sons, Bert of Maxwell, Carl and Russell of Cambridge; ten grandchildren, six brothers; two sisters, and a host of nieces and nephews and friends. All of his children were at his bedside when death occurred.

Brothers and sisters attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Denton, Ed Denton and Mrs. Tille Clark of Renselaer, Ind., Mr. and Mrs. Carl Denton of Monon, Ind., C. O. Denton of Harvey, Ill. and Tom Denton of Hammond, Indiana. Other relatives attending were from Minnesota, Des Moines, Slater, Ames and Nevada.
