Hold Final Rites For Mrs. John Kimberly
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Jan. 2 o'clock for Mrs. John B. Kimberly from the home of Dr. and Mrs. S. B. Goodenow in Colo.
The short and impressive services were conducted with Rev. E. J. Berreth, pastor of the Colo Evangelical U. B. church, bringing a most comforting message to the bereaved family and friends.
The following grandsons acted as pallbearers: Melvin Kimberly, Frank Kimberly, James Kimberly, Ronald Altes, Dick Maxwell, and Harold Dean Richardson.
Interment was in the Peoria cemetery south of Maxwell by the side of the husband.
Obituary
Mrs. Minnie Kimberly, born in Collins township on Aug. 10, 1870 was a daughter of the late pioneers, Silas and Elizabeth Jane Shearer. Attending Normal Institute at Nevada, she taught school a number of years. On March 21, 1891, she was united in marriage to John B. Kimberly, also of Collins, who preceded her in death in November of 1921. To this union were born 10 children with the first son dying in infancy. Mrs. Kimberly lived her entire life in the Collins vicinity until 14 years ago when she moved to Colo. the last four and one-half years, during which time she was an invalid, she was under the constant care of her daughter, Ruth, and son-in-law, Dr. S. B. Goodenow. She was a member of the Colo Methodist church and a memorial fund in her memory will be used for church projects. She passed away early Thursday morning, Dec. 30, 1948, at the age of 78 years, four months and 20 days.
Survivors
Surviving are nine children, Frank W. of Sask., Canada, Ike M. of Maxwell, John R. of Arlington, Va., Fred H. of Collins, Mrs. S. B. Goodenow (Ruth) of Colo, Mrs. N. H. Brinkman (Mildred) of Colo, Mrs. Don Miller (Minnie) of Washington, Iowa, Harold of Colo and Mrs. J. D. Armstron (Kathryn) of Ames; also 24 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three brothers and three sisters, Mrs. Orrie Heintz of Collins, Mrs. Catherine Diggins of Colo, Mrs. Harriett Frazier of Hot Springs, S. Dak., L. D. Shearer of Collins, E. W. Shearer of Cedar Rapids and Sanford Shearer of Los Angeles, California.
Three brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
